We are proud to sponsor the Gaithersburg H.S. Key Club! The club, with 50+ members, has been actively growing through the Fall of 2006 and Winter 2007. Club members completed a successful Toys for Tots collection program this past holiday season. For February, the club is supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through a competitive fundraising effort. Their fundraisers include "Pennies for Patients" (a "penny war"), coin jar collections at a local Safeway, and a fundraising dinner at a local restaurant. Kiwanians and community members may also support our Key Club's efforts by donating online at www.active.com/donate/synca/sygaithe. The Key Club's goal for this fundraiser is $2500!
From February 5-23, Gaithersburg H.S. competes against 8 other Montgomery County Public High Schools in this effort. At the end of the 3 week period, the High School to have the highest per student donation average wins a free post prom party*. To learn more about the program and the schools we are competing against, please visit www.schoolandyouth.org/ncapostprom.
Club members are the core of the Key Club, but they can't do it without the talented leadership of the club officers and the club's faculty advisor. For the 2007-08 school year, this leadership includes:
This spring, the Key Club is hoping to plan and host a 5K run/walk. The Key Club Capital District Convention will be held the weekend of April 14 in Richmond, Virginia, and we hope to help sponsor several incoming club officers for this trip. The club will be electing new club officers in March, so the district convention is a good time for the new officers to receive some training, and for club members to meet and exchange ideas.
Several Key Club officers have been regular visitors at our Kiwanis Club meetings. We hope to have them "take over" one of our meetings this Spring! This is a great group of teens, and we hope to continue our sponsorship role over the coming years with a great amount of enthusiasm and interaction between our clubs!
